ORONDO ORCHARD

General

The Winter chill and Summer sun means Dwellingup grows some of the best fruit in Western Australia.

Orondo Farm was settled early last century. Originally the farm produced cattle and horses, as well as massive jarrah logs which were shipped to London. Orondo Farm was planted with cherries in the early 80s and then quickly to apples.

With the winter chill and summer sun, Dwellingup grows some of the best apples and stonefruit in the State. However, the economics are against us, so we are transforming Orondo Farm into a boutique specialised farm focussing on what Dwellingup can grow better than others.

Varieties

We now have around 20 acres (8 hectares) of apples, with Pink Ladies and Royal Gala the main varieties planted. Around 10 acres of White Fleshed Nectarines were planted recently to target the Asian market.

Local people have taken such liking a to the sweetness of the nectarines that the fruit has yet to see a ship (or to need a passport). All Orondo is sold under the ORO label, so if you like our Orondo Gardens, then ask your supermarket for only ORO fruit. Even if we don't have any fresh to sell, at least it will keep their buyers thinking of us.
